Planning a can be hard, especially when your spouse is obsessing over having a very niche theme.
While weddings are always personal to the bride and groom, one man has been left after his wife-to-be has been adamant to base their whole day off her favourite time of year. He explained how much his wife loves autumn and anything pumpkin or but thinks it's too much to incorporate that into their special day.
His bride-to-be has been nusy choosing pumpkin spice cocktails to orange ornaments and picking up fallen leaves to use, he thinks his fiancée has gotten "carried away" and is now worried her over-the-top decorations will make him also look like an "obsessive fan of autumn" too. In an anonymous letter to he said: "While I like the season, my wife's plans for the ceremony makes it seem like I’m an obsessive fan of autumn. It's become a bit overwhelming, and while I told her she can do what she wants for the wedding, I kind of regret saying that now.
"I want no pumpkins, pumpkin-spiced cocktails, or random dirty leaves as part of the biggest day of our lives. But our wedding is nearly here and I don't know what to say." The advice from the agony aunt was that it's not too late to speak to his fiancee about his concerns, and relationships are about being honest and compromises. She noted that weddings are important to show a balance of both of the couple's personalities, but he needs to communicate his true feelings.
"Let your partner know that you are so happy she has taken on the bulk of organising your wedding and that you appreciate all her effort. Explain that as much as you love autumn, you want your wedding to have simple themes but not to feel overwhelming. Tell her gently that you feel all the pumpkins and leaves are too overpowering for your day, and ask if she would be willing to make some minor changes."
She also suggested find a middle ground with what they were both going to be comfortable with, which could include still serving autumn inspired cocktails but without the pumpkin spice or use 'tasteful autumnal colours' in the decorations without using leaves and pumpkins as subtle tweaks can "make a big difference".
